He said that his fitness routine was largely dictated by the roles, he was going to play. For Hercules, he followed a 22-week diet. He wanted to get a demigod look for Hercules and it was really a Herculean effort for the actor. He wanted to look big and mean.

He said that the Hercules team wanted to make that darker in tone and for that reason, they based that off Steve Moore and Admira Wijaya’s ‘Hercules. Hercules in the ‘Thracian Wars’ graphic novel was pretty dark.

He added that the intensity of preparation for different roles also depends on characters. Everything including nutrition, fight choreography, and weapons training are planned accordingly. For Hercules, he wanted to respect mythology

Johnson had to elevate his fitness training significantly to fit into the character of Hercules. He followed a six-day on and one-day-off schedule for six months to put on extra weight needed to look like a demigod.

Hercules training was really very-very tough. He had a 50-minute cardio session every morning followed by working on a specific part of the body. Dwayne Johnson had fixed days for building specific body parts. But he has two days for working on his legs every week.

He further said that he used to start early in the morning at 4 a.m. During filming, he used to do cardio and lift before moving to set. He said that he woke up early around 3-4 a.m. even when he wasn’t filming. He loved training when the sun was coming up because that was the time that allowed him to put on his headphones and step off the crazy treadmill.

He said that when he was listening to music, he was 100% focused in his attempt. There was no wastage of time or effort during weight training. He said that he used to train like Hercules. He had to spend hours in costume hence it was necessary for him to wake up early and start training.

Dwayne Johnson said that training for him was meditation. For him, training includes everything like yoga, biking, hiking, and therapy.

The Rock knew that he needed to boost his workout routine to fit into the character of Hercules. And to achieve the objective, his nutrition team created a unique “12 Labors” diet that includes protein, carbs, and fats in a large amount.

Johnson said that he ate six to seven times a day to get enough protein that can help achieve his objective. His diet was largely made up of egg whites, filet mignon, chicken, fish, oatmeal, broccoli, asparagus, cream of rice, baked potatoes, and salad. His diet was measured and weighed before serving.

He said he had carbs with every meal but he also maintained a fine balance between proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. He also had multivitamins to complete his nutritional needs. One more thing he never missed was a protein shake that he drank after training. Dwayne Johnson is punctual in fitness training and diet.
