India In Its 73rd Year

Indian would enter into the 73rd year of Independence on 15th August 2019. PM Narendra Modi will hoist the National Flag at Red Fort in New Delhi and address the nation from the fort.

Indian Independence Day

It was on the midnight of 14th August 1947 that India woke up to the light of freedom and ushered into a new era where it was a free nation. But the dominion of India had many challenges to highlight its presence as an independent nation on the world map.

India adopts a new constitution

On 26 January 1950, India gave itself a new constitution to lay guidelines for governing the country. The second largest constitution of the world, it contains a Preamble and 448 Articles in 25 parts and 12 schedules and five appendices.

Integration of Princely States

The biggest challenge at the time of independence was integration of states that were given the option to join Pakistan or India. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Deputy Prime Minister of India, played a key role in integrating the Princely States of India into the dominion of India. Except Jammu & Kashmir, all the Princely States were integrated.

First general election

Elections to the First Lok Sabha were held in 1951-52 for 489 seats. From then, elections are held every five years and governments changed according to the results. Simultaneously, elections for state governments are also held every five years. Also, there are local bodies like blocks and panchayats whose elections are also held to choose functionaries.

Future of India after Indian Independence

President Ram Nath Kovind would address the nation on the eve of Independence Day. The president would unfold the growth plan of his government before the country. PM Narendra Modi will address the nation on the Independence Day. He will make important announcements for better future of India from the Red Fort.
