N.F.L. Ropes In Jennifer Lopez And Shakira For Super Bowl Event

In a last-ditch effort, NFL has joined hands with Jay-Z to have Jennifer Lopez and Shakira to perform as Super Bowl in Miami in February 2020. N.F.L. wants to salvage the cachet of its halftime show with the help of entertainment provided by the music impresario. Jay-Z would also support Inspire Change, league’s social activism campaign.

Why did league call Jay-Z for music?

Last year, no artist including Jay-Z performed at NFL Super Bowl because of the Colin Kaepernick incident. The artist fraternity denied performing as a show of support for Colin, who accused the league of blackballing because of his protests during the national anthem.

Colin Kaepernick was the former 49ers quarterback but became a free agent in March 2017. But he couldn’t find a new team after becoming a free agent. Finally, he realized that he was standing on the wrong side of the fence and settled collusion cases against the N.F.L. in February. He and safety Eric Reid paid several million dollars to settle the cases. Colin and Eric are now with Carolina Panthers.
